Can I have a smart meter installed for single fuel only?

We'd love to be able to provide smart meter installations to absolutely everyone right away. But, unfortunately we're not able to do that just yet. Right now we require access to both meters to be able to fully communicate with them. At the moment we are focusing on dual fuel installations and are not undertaking single fuel installations.

We will however be in contact with our single fuel customers soon, when the industry central communications hub is completely functional with all other suppliers so this process can be fulfilled with minimum impact.

If you were to receive a single fuel smart upgrade from us, then the other meter is the responsibility of the other supplier. Where Economy Energy are not the electricity supplier we may decide to wait until the other supplier has upgraded the electric meter to smart and then (when notified by the customer) visit the property to upgrade the gas meter. We cannot upgrade meters that we do not supply.

Where the electricity meter is upgraded the customer will receive the benefits that a smart meter can offer – actual reads, operate in credit/PAYG mode, if in PAYG numerous ways to top up etc... However without the electricity meter being upgraded the gas meter (whether smart or not) cannot communicate to the supplier so will remain as a non-operating smart meter.
